What is the Urgent Care Line?

The Minnesota Regional Poison Center, in collaboration with MN Bridge, has developed a 24/7/365 service dedicated to helping EMS providers initiate buprenorphine in the field and manage opioid use disorder (OUD) with confidence and clinical backing.

Who can call?

Any EMS provider in Minnesota may call for guidance related to buprenorphine administration, opioid withdrawal, or general substance-related emergencies.

How do we assist EMS providers?

We provide:

  • Real-time clinical guidance for in-field buprenorphine use, based on the MN EMS bridge protocol
  • Assistance with managing adverse reactions, such as precipitated withdrawal symptoms

To provide the most effective support, we may ask you for key information, such as:

  • Basic patient demographics (e.g., age, sex)
  • Protocol-specific details, including observed withdrawal symptoms and COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) scores

Our goal is to partner with you to ensure safe, effective, and timely care for patients with opioid use disorder, starting right in the field.
